The Council of Legal Education, through the Nigerian Law School, has issued a public notice addressing concerns over alleged non-validation of students’ payments, reassuring applicants of the integrity of its registration system.
In a statement dated April 1, 2026, the management of the Nigerian Law School dismissed circulating reports suggesting that students’ payments were not being validated. The institution clarified that it operates a fully automated online registration system, where payments are verified electronically using the Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) generated via the Remita platform.
According to the notice, the system has consistently ensured a seamless and transparent payment validation process for the majority of applicants. The school revealed that over 7,267 students—representing more than 90 percent—have successfully completed their registration through this process.
However, the institution acknowledged that a limited number of applicants have encountered validation challenges. It attributed these issues to several factors, including multiple payments made in tranches, underpayment of fees affecting automatic reconciliation, payments made under names different from those of applicants, and the use of already utilized RRRs, which it described as fraudulent practices.
Additionally, the Law School noted instances where claims of payments could not be verified due to lack of evidence, advising affected students to contact Remita for resolution.
Despite these challenges, the management emphasized its commitment to resolving all issues promptly and efficiently, noting that efforts have been made beyond routine expectations to assist affected applicants.
To accommodate prospective students, particularly those who recently completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, the Nigerian Law School announced an extension of the registration deadline to Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Students experiencing difficulties have been urged to promptly verify their payment status through appropriate campus channels and take necessary steps to resolve any discrepancies.
The clarification aims to restore confidence in the registration process while ensuring that all eligible candidates complete their enrolment without unnecessary hindrances.
