In a remarkable display of legal brilliance and advocacy excellence, the Faculty of Law, Ebonyi State University (EBSU), has once again etched its name on the national stage by securing an impressive 2nd place at the prestigious Jurist Center Administration of Criminal Justice Academy Moot Court Competition held in Abuja from April 8th to 10th, 2026.
Representing the university with distinction were two outstanding law students, Ikpenyi Micheal Ezeugo and Okoro Chidimma Esther, whose exceptional performance throughout the competition earned widespread admiration and ultimately propelled the faculty to the finals. Their journey to the podium was marked by intellectual rigor, strategic argumentation, and unwavering determination.
The competition, which attracted top law faculties across Nigeria, tested participants on various aspects of criminal justice administration, legal reasoning, and courtroom advocacy. EBSU’s team stood out early in the contest, having first qualified to represent the South-East Geo-Political Zone following an outstanding memorial submission that demonstrated depth, clarity, and a sound understanding of legal principles.
Building on this strong foundation, the team delivered commanding performances in both the quarter-final and semi-final rounds, defeating formidable opponents and showcasing the high standards of legal education synonymous with Ebonyi State University. Their progression to the final round was not only well-earned but also a testament to the faculty’s enduring culture of excellence.
Although they finished as runners-up, their achievement is widely regarded as a significant victory, placing EBSU among the top-performing institutions in legal advocacy competitions nationwide.
Reacting to the milestone, the President of the Faculty of Law, Okemini Kenneth Ogobuchi, expressed immense pride in the team’s accomplishment. He commended the representatives for their resilience, sacrifice, and dedication, describing their performance as a proud moment for the entire faculty and the university community at large.
He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the faculty leadership, particularly the Dean, Dr. Uchechukwu Uguru, and the Head of Department (EBSU Law clinic), Dr. Mrs. Chioma V. Iteshi, for their visionary leadership and unwavering support. Recognition was equally given to the lecturers, research team, and the broader student body whose collective efforts contributed to the success.
According to him, the victory reflects not just individual brilliance but the strength of collaboration, mentorship, and institutional support within the faculty.
