The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Oyo State, has reaffirmed the legitimacy and constitutional backing of its recent election held at The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic.
According to a statement released by the council, the election was conducted successfully with the physical presence of 13 duly recognized senators. The leadership further disclosed that senators who were absent due to distance constraints have since communicated their full endorsement of the process, reinforcing the credibility of the outcome.
The council, however, expressed concern over what it described as a “misleading narrative” being circulated by certain individuals, including Oyewumi Festus, Oladoja Mubarak, Benedict Olalere, the National President of NAOS, and Babatunde Lanre. The statement also accused Prince Adebowale Adebayo Falana, Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, of masterminding the alleged factional leadership.
NANS JCC clarified that the individual being presented as a “factional chairman” had earlier been disqualified by the Independent Convention Planning Committee (IN-CPC) alongside other ineligible aspirants. The disqualification, according to the council, was in strict adherence to constitutional provisions guiding the association.
The statement further noted that the said individual, a former Students’ Union President of The Polytechnic Ibadan, is currently an HND I part-time student of Oyo State College of Agricultural Technology, making him ineligible to contest based on NANS constitutional requirements, which restrict executive positions to full-time students.
Describing the ongoing situation as a deliberate attempt to create confusion within the student community, the council maintained that such actions undermine due process and constitutional order.
The leadership therefore urged students, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard any statements or directives from the alleged faction, insisting that they lack constitutional recognition within NANS JCC, Oyo State.
Additionally, the council called on security agencies to take necessary action against individuals allegedly parading themselves as representatives of NANS JCC Oyo State, warning that such acts constitute impersonation.
Reaffirming its commitment to unity, transparency, and democratic principles, the council emphasized that it remains focused on upholding lawful leadership within the student body.
The statement was jointly signed by the General Secretary, Ibrahim Oladipupo Ajuwon, and the Chairman, Abdulazeez Uthman Olawale.
