The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has responded to growing concerns from students regarding NELFUND disbursements, school fees installment payments, and charges appearing on the 100-level students’ portal.
In a statement released to students on Wednesday 28th January 2026, the SUG President, Comr. Chika Abraham Nwuhuo, provided clarifications and assurances on the issues raised.
NELFUND Payments
According to the SUG, NELFUND disbursements will continue next week for students who are yet to receive payment. However, students who received double or triple payments during the 2023/2024 disbursement will not receive further funds until the excess payments are refunded.
The Union disclosed that a new list of recently disbursed students will soon be released to allow affected students to apply for refunds. Students who were underpaid have been urged to remain patient, as all outstanding balances will be settled immediately after the final batch of payments is completed next week.
School Fees Installment Payments
On the issue of installment payments, the SUG confirmed that it has formally engaged the university management, stressing the importance of allowing students who cannot afford full payment to pay in installments.
The management, according to the Union, acknowledged this concern and approved the continuation of installment payments for students from 200 level and above. However, 100 level students are required to pay their school fees in full.
N16,500 Charge on 100-Level Portal
Addressing concerns over the ₦16,500 charge appearing on the 100-level course registration portal, the SUG clarified that the charge does not represent a school fees increment and is not related to alternative placement.
The fee is for Entrepreneurship Studies for 100-level students and covers both online and physical components of the course. The Union further stated that access codes will be provided to enable students apply for the course. Students were advised to disregard earlier information circulated by the SSG of the Union on the matter.
Assurance to Students
The SUG President reassured students that their concerns remain a top priority, noting that the Union understands the challenges students are facing and will continue to engage the university management in the best interest of the student body.
