In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to student welfare and effective leadership, the Vice-Chancellor of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, Professor Michael Ugota Awoke, on Wednesday, 26th February 2026, donated a brand new Toyota Sienna bus to the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university.
The gesture, according to the Vice-Chancellor, is aimed at supporting the activities of the Students’ Union leadership and addressing transportation challenges often encountered in the course of discharging their responsibilities to the student body.
Professor Awoke noted that the Students’ Union Government plays a critical role in representing the interests of students, coordinating student-related programmes, and serving as a bridge between the university management and the student community. He emphasized that providing the vehicle will enhance the operational efficiency of the union executives, especially in carrying out official engagements, attending functions within and outside the university, and coordinating student activities across the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment for students and ensuring that the leadership structures within the university are adequately supported to function effectively.
Receiving the vehicle on behalf of the Students’ Union Government, the SUG leadership expressed profound appreciation to Professor Awoke for what they described as a thoughtful and impactful gesture. They noted that the vehicle would greatly assist the union in executing its duties and promised to make judicious use of the bus for the benefit of the entire student community.
Members of the university management, staff, and students present at the brief handover ceremony commended the Vice-Chancellor for his continuous efforts towards improving student welfare and strengthening the relationship between the university administration and the student body.
The donation of the brand new Sienna bus is yet another testament to the Vice-Chancellor’s dedication to responsive leadership and his unwavering support for initiatives that enhance student engagement and institutional development at Ebonyi State University.
