The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the sum of ₦4 billion each for 12 selected universities to rehabilitate engineering and technology workshops, upgrade laboratories, and install modern equipment under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High-Impact Intervention Project.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening practical training capacity, advancing innovation, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities in engineering and technology disciplines.
Beneficiary Institutions
The institutions selected for the intervention include:
- Federal University of Technology Minna
- Federal University of Technology Akure
- Federal University of Technology Owerri
- Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University
- Federal University of Technology Ikot-Abasi
- Federal University of Technology Babura
- Nigerian Army University Biu
- African Aviation and Aerospace University
- Shehu Shagari University of Education
- Enugu State University of Science and Technology
- University of Ilesa

Monitoring Committee Inaugurated
A monitoring committee has also been inaugurated to supervise the implementation of the engineering upgrade programme across the selected institutions. The committee is expected to ensure transparency, compliance with project specifications, and timely execution.
Officials described the intervention as part of broader federal efforts to reposition technical education and address infrastructural gaps in laboratories and engineering workshops nationwide.
The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms targeted at strengthening Nigeria’s science, technology, engineering, and innovation ecosystem.
