2. NYSC Certificate (Letter) of Exemption
A Certificate of Exemption is issued to graduates who are legally exempted from NYSC service, even though their institutions are recognised by the programme.
Situations that lead to exemption
Age factor
- Graduates who are 30 years or older at the time of graduation
Security or military service
- Individuals serving or who have served in organisations such as the Nigerian Armed Forces or the Nigeria Police Force
National honours recipients
- Persons awarded national honours by the Federal Government
Medical or legally recognised conditions
What it means
The holder did not participate in NYSC, but the government officially exempted them from service.
3. NYSC Letter of Exclusion
A Letter of Exclusion is issued to graduates who are not eligible for mobilisation into NYSC at all due to the structure of their academic programme.
Example
Graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) commonly receive a Letter of Exclusion.
Why?
NOUN operates an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system, where students study through flexible and distance learning methods rather than the conventional full-time university structure required for NYSC mobilisation.
What it means
The holder was never expected to participate in NYSC, so the system issues a Letter of Exclusion instead of mobilisation.
