Howard University Introduces Garvey-Nkrumah Fellowship for African Law Students Across the Diaspora

Washington, D.C. — The School of Law, Clinical Law Center at Howard University has officially introduced the Garvey-Nkrumah Fellowship (GNF) Program, a prestigious cross-cultural professional development initiative designed for legal, graduate, and professional students of African descent.

In a formal communication addressed to African Law Student Associations, John Woods, Program Founder and Director, announced that applications for the 2025–2026 cycle opened on October 1, 2025, and will close on March 31, 2026.

The Garvey-Nkrumah Fellowship Program brings together a select cohort of students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Caribbean institutions, and African universities. The fellowship operates as a student-run international development consultancy for the African Diaspora, offering fellows hands-on global exposure.

According to the program outline, participants will engage in externships and field placements while providing technical assistance and capacity support to partner institutions across the United States, the Caribbean, and Continental Africa.

The fellowship offers fellows practical professional experience while strengthening transnational collaboration and development engagement within the African Diaspora.

Program Director John Woods emphasized that fellowship slots are limited and encouraged associations to circulate information widely among eligible members to boost participation.
