EBSU, Abakaliki — February 20, 2026
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has issued an official communiqué expressing concern over the recent withdrawal of students from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology, particularly within the Department of Medical Laboratory Science.
In the statement dated February 19, 2026, the Union acknowledged the prerogative of university authorities to enforce academic standards and uphold institutional discipline. However, it raised reservations regarding reports that some affected students have not been given adequate opportunity to access, scrutinize, or authenticate certain results upon which the withdrawal decisions were based.
The Union emphasized the importance of due process, administrative transparency, and thorough result verification before the ratification or public dissemination of any withdrawal list. It stressed that decisions carrying far-reaching academic consequences must be grounded in procedural propriety, equity, and clarity.
The communiqué further reassured students that constructive engagements are ongoing through appropriate institutional channels to address the matter.
Speaking through the signed statement, Comr. Chika Abraham Nwuhuo, President of the SUG, reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to safeguarding the academic rights, dignity, and welfare of every student.
“The Union remains resolute and unwavering in its mandate to protect the academic rights of students. Every student deserves justice, transparency, and fair consideration in matters pertaining to academic progression,” the statement read.
The development comes amid heightened discussions within the university community following the withdrawal of several students from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology.
Further updates are expected as engagements between student leadership and university authorities continue.
