The Office of the Secretary General of the 27th Republic Student Union Government (SUG) of Ebonyi State University (EBSU) has conducted an official sensitization visit to 100 Level students at the CAS and Presco Campuses in preparation for the upcoming matriculation ceremony and Central Student Identity Card production.
The visit, which took place on Monday, February 16, 2026, was led by the SUG Secretary General, Chukwudi Egwu Ogbonna. The engagement aimed to formally welcome the newly admitted students into the university community and to provide clarity on essential administrative procedures.
During his address, the Secretary General congratulated the freshmen on their admission and encouraged them to remain disciplined, focused, and committed to excellence as they begin their academic journey at Ebonyi State University.
A major highlight of the visit was an extensive briefing on the importance of the Central Student Identity Card. He explained that the Central ID Card, issued by the University Management, serves as the official and universally recognized means of student identification within and outside the campus. He further clarified that it is distinct from departmental or faculty identification cards.
According to the Secretary General, the Central Student ID Card:
- Confirms a student’s status as a bona fide member of the university
- Protects students from unnecessary harassment, particularly by security agencies outside the campus
- Grants access to lectures, examinations, university facilities, and official engagements
- Is required for academic and administrative verification processes
- Assists SUG officials in identifying and supporting students during emergencies
- Serves as an essential document for clearance and other institutional documentation
He emphasized that the ID card production is completely free of charge and reassured students that the Students’ Union Government, through his office, is committed to ensuring that every student receives the card accordingly.
Freshmen were advised to submit their required details — including full name, registration number, faculty or department, phone number, and a clean passport photograph — to their respective Course Representatives to facilitate smooth processing.
The Office also acknowledged the support of the Dean of Students Affairs and the University Management in ensuring effective implementation of the ID card production process.
The 27th Republic SUG reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare, identity, and overall interests of students of Ebonyi State University.
